Portfolios: Magic or Trick Gone Bad

Just wanted to share some food for thought, especially in this every changing economy.

Having a portfolio is highly important, regardless of the industry you are in. Portfolios allow you the opportunity to separate yourself from the pack. Your portfolio should illustrate your sense of style, where you started + where you are going. In other words, it should tell a story.

Here are a few tips:
1. Do a self assessment - What are my skills?
2. Decide which items showcases these skills!
3. Have some order...organize your portfolio in a way that is easy to follow yet highlights your accomplishments.
4. Consider making 2 identical portfolios. Just in case, the client/potential employer would like to look over it for a few days.

Lastly, please avoid any portfolio faux pas, like work you did over 5 years ago, showcasing pieces that is not relevant to the clients interest + not having an online version of your portfolio. Hello, technology is the way of life + not to mention "we are suppose to be going green".

I hope you find this information helpful!

Good Luck!
