Be Productive Tips
Mondays are tough. And so are you, especially if you follow these 9 tips on how to be more productive. What's great about these tips, is that it doesn't matter what you do or where you work – everyone could use more focus. And to keep one hundred, a long ass to do list with an over-sized cup of caffeine is not what you're going to read about today. Instead here are some tips on how to stay on task, avoid distractions and leave the office feeling accomplished.
TIP 1: Stretch and Meditate
Me, Myself and I. Always make the first minutes of the morning about yourself. Spend time working out or meditating. This is the perfect time to reflect on what is going well in your life and setting intentions.
TIP 2: Grab A Drink
The relaxing kind. Have a cup of coffee or tea. Whichever it is, have something that makes you happy and alert.
TIP 3: Write Your Goals
Prioritize. Instead of having a long to-do list, make a short list, like 8-15. Why? This gives you 1-2 things to do each hour. And prioritize your task, do the most important and challenging things first; it's better to get these done before lunch.
TIP 4: Do less with more focus
Stop multi-tasking. Stop trying to do 100 things at once! Changing tasks more than 10 times a day drops your IQ an average of 10 points. Stay wise, and get things done more effectively and efficiently by focusing on one task at a time.
TIP 5: Take A Break
Breathe. Taking a break is very necessary, especially if your weekly tasks consist of doing the same thing over and over again. I recommend using the Focus Keeper. Set a focus length and break length. I focus on each task for 45 minutes, then take a 5-minute break every hour along with a 15-minute break every 4 hours. That's 55 minutes a day not including an hour lunch that I get to relax. I usually read a book.
TIP 6: Limit Email Responses
Have a system. You’ve probably developed a few productivity ruining habits over the years. Help manage your distractions by creating a system. If you're like me you feel a need to check email compulsively, instead leave your email closed and set a system that allows you to check it once in the morning, afternoon, and evening. Do this with social media too.
TIP 7: Stay Clean
Be tidy. At the end of each day be sure to tidy up your workspace, this will help you get started right away and allow for the creative juices to flow. If your space is chaos, it can cause you to be in chaos.
TIP 8: Plan the next day
Goals Always! Write down what your goals are for the next day, this will jump start your mind, preparing you for what's going to happen tomorrow and what you may need to do to get things done.
TIP 9: Go to bed
Get your beauty sleep. Not getting enough sleep is guaranteed to sabotage your productivity. It has been studied and said that having less than seven hours a night leads to you being slower, less focused, and less motivated. Successful people know that sleeping the requisite minimum of seven hours a night is not a luxury nor an option, but rather a necessity for living an optimally productive life. With this in mind, organize your days and prioritize your work around getting into bed and waking up at a consistent time so your mind and body can be at peak performance.
