Daily Successful Habits
When it comes to being successful (and focused) there are some habits we must possess, this is why having a routine in place is so important. Did you know that it takes only 66 days to form a habit, that's a mere 2 months and 6 days. Habits allow for us to focus on our purpose, i.e. goals in life. Over the years, I have come to realize that I love structure, having a plan and structure has allowed me to tackle my day with great success. However, if you haven't developed positive habits it can break your day. In fact, if we allow our bad habits to happen every day, like not getting to bed on time, it can lead us to failure. Accomplishing nothing, hello procrastinations, negative thinking, and poor attitude. Over my 38 years, I have experienced both positive healthy habits and poor negative habits; and through these repeated experiments what I know is that these positive habits have led me to success and can lead you there too.
1. WAKE UP EARLY & GO TO BED ON TIME.
I have struggled so many times getting up in the mornings when I stayed up past my bedtime. What I find to be the most helpful is to go to bed 30 minutes before my actual bedtime and read. As I read, I start to free my mind, I focus so much on the characters, that I generally start to feel relaxed, eventually falling asleep. I recommend 7 hours of sleep minimum.
2. MAKE YOUR BED!
I can't tell you how important this is. I make my bed 99% of the time, even after a nap. When you start your day with a made bed, you feel accomplished already. Many studies have said that making your bed in the mornings is directly correlated to your productivity for the day. I say that a coming home to a made bed prevents anxiety, who doesn't like to peel back the sheets a night?!
3. DRINK A GLASS OF WATER, WHEN YOUR FIRST WAKE
When I first wake, I need the water...hello thirst quencher. But in reality, a glass of water first thing in the morning is said to fire up your metabolism, hydrate you, help your body flush out toxins, give your brain fuel, and may even cut your appetite throughout the day.
4. MORNING MEDITATION
Spending 5-10 minutes each morning on your goals for the day reminds you of your purpose for the days. What is is that I deserve today to feel successful? What can I do today that I didn't do yesterday that will add to my happiness? What is today's plan?
5. GET DRESSED
Always get dressed, even if you work from home. You've heard the saying, if you look good you feel good. Well, it's true. Always put your best look forward. Besides, you never know who you may meet. This past Saturday, while out running errands, I met someone that can contribute to my business. I felt confident talking with her because I did my hair and makeup as if I was headed to the office. And it was only a rainy Saturday of running errands.
6. FOCUS ON YOUR ONE THING
There are always many tasks that we want to accomplish, however it is important to prioritize. Always start your day focusing on the one thing that will lead to your success, for me, it's prospecting. I'm a realtor, so it's important that I spend the first few hours of my days focused on cultivating new clients. Without this one thing, I can't be successful. Gary Keller, says that when you do this ONE Thing, everything else you could do to accomplish your goal will now be either doable with less effort or no longer even necessary.
7. EAT HEALTHY & GO FOR A WALK
Lately, I have been enjoying a salad. I had a salad each day last week for either lunch or dinner. Eating healthy prevents us from crashing midday. Bye, sugar! Plus, if you go outside for brisk walk you're able to refocus and become more productive.
8. FINISH WORK & GO HOME
It's important to know when to quit. When you're done with your one thing and a few other priorities, quit. Don't try and do everything you planned for the week in one day, know when to quit and go home.
9. PREP FOR TOMORROW
Once you've settled in at home, its time to prep for tomorrow. Fix your lunch, pick out your outfit and make sure your tasks/activities for tomorrow are planned. Imagine what your day will look like tomorrow. Again, know your purpose.
10. REFLECT & GO TO BED
Take this time to reflect on what you did today, what you are most grateful for? Write it down. I keep a journal with me, in my journals on the first few pages are my inspiration sheets, like an inspiration board it holds what I want my life to look like. I also have a 2 page checklist of all my goals for the years. After these pages are my reflection pages, this is where I write what I an appreciative of. It's so nice to reflect on the positive.
