Create the Ultimate #Shelfie
Open shelving can be beautiful, a conversation piece and magazine worthy. Today, I share with you the steps to achieve the aforementioned. But before you start following my suggestions, clear the clutter. It's always best to get rid of mess, i.e. junk before styling your #shelfie. If possible, start with a bare shelf. After you've cleaned the clutter, here's what to do:
1. Add your favorite books!
I like to park books of similar spine color. It makes the stack of books more fluid. I'm from the art world, so I also like design and fashion books best.
2. Add objects of various heights.
Adding objects will help to break up the books; breaking up the straight, repetitive lines on the shelves. Mix the objects around, the taller the shelf the taller the object needs to be, this will help to fill space. Also pair similar or alike objects on the same shelves, like this set of vases. You can also place objects on your stack of books, this will add height.
3. Add personal imagery.
Depending on the number of shelves, you would want to add a few (don't go overboard) personal family and friends pictures. Pick images that tell a story or a moment in time. Be sure to pick interesting framing for that additional wow factor, like these or these.
4. Be a green thumb.
Okay, so you don't have to be a green thumb. You could use faux greenery. Whether your using real plants or fake ones, be sure to add greenery. It will help to add life to your shelves.
That's it! You're all done. Overtime, feel free to move things around or add additional objects. Let things develop naturally after your initial #shelfie.
