A Few Easy Ways To Relax After A Long Day
I don’t know about you, but with Christmas and the New Year fast approaching, I’ve been feeling overwhelmed and more days than not, I've come home exhausted! With the pressure of keeping up with work, last minute holiday shopping and meal planning to do, it's no wonder we're all feeling a little bah humbug. If this sounds familiar and you need some tips on how to relax, here are a few ways to get through the holiday season and beyond the new year.
Get home and change
Let me tell you, that there is nothing better than getting home from a long day and changing into a comfy t-shirt and a pair of sweatpants. Changing out of your work clothes helps communicate to your brain that it’s time to relax, and to let go of the work day.
Push the off button
We're always on the computer and phone, our lives are ruled by technology majority of our day. So, when you get home, take a break. Make an effort to leave your telephone in another room and leave your laptop off for a couple of hours. Don't check anything, especially social media.
Meditate or Read A Book
Instead of more technology, spend a few minutes reflecting on your day and all the things your grateful for, perhaps consider keeping a gratitude journal. If journaling isn't your thing, try meditating. Simply sit on the floor and just focus on your breathing. If you come home to kids, consider a 10 minute stretch them, followed by a family read. Reading is not only fundamental but extremely relaxing. A Win-Win!
Lots of bubbles! And a little bit of light and sound.
Yeah, not those kinds. I'm talking bubble baths! After a super stressful day, walking around in uncomfortable shoes, dealing with a variety of not so nice personalities, there’s nothing like slipping into a hot bubble bath. I recommend adding lavender oil and a bath bomb (add rose petals if you like too) both are amazing for helping me achieve pure relaxation. Don't forget the candles and music. Having a spa like playlist will make your bath seem like you're anywhere but home.
Raise A Glass
Before hitting the sack, "wine" down with a glass of wine. Having a glass is the perfect way to make a long day or week feel a little more special, plus the melatonin will help you to sleep.
